Acceptance of minutes - Jan 11 minutes accepted

New Business/Old Business
Public Health Nurse / Coalition of Drug and Alcohol Awareness
Retail Marijuana
  • Board of Health is in process of drafting a letter outlining their position on retail marijuana
  • Anti Retail Marijuana materials from Norwood and Westwood were presented
  • Coalition/Public Health Nurse is doing outreach to explain the upcoming vote in April.  They have presented information about Opioid overdose and Marijuana use to local groups, like Retired Mens Club and Rotary
  • Concerns with Retail Marijuana include a lack of labeling regulations
Immunizations
  • Public Health and School Nurse Leader have no issue with compliance, catch up scheduling is the only issue
  • Taking immunization training with Gail Kelly and Public Health Nurse
  • There have been no flu deaths in Dedham
Health Fair
  • There was discussion of potential to have a Health Fair
  • Public Health Nurse has applied for grants to help prevent skin cancer:  “Health Communities”Grant to erect shade structures at parks.  The board received a grant to install sunscreen dispensers and applied for another grant to “Impact Melanoma”.  They are also asking “Impact Melanoma” to come to summer camps
  • How to get attendance at a Health Fair - a booth at Farmers Market was suggested - Dr. Camer volunteered to do health screenings.  Kathy Reid suggested having screenings/Health Fair at the Endicott Car Show, James Joyce Ramble and Dedham Day since people will already be there

Directors Report
Benchmark for Finance
  • There was discussion of budget and finances.  Mentioned were increases in budget for Household Hazardous waste disposal and contract based issues and training.   More funds are required.
Discussion of grants
  • Health Dept/Board of Health cooperated with 7 other communities - referred to as NC7.  They apply for and share grants together.  The group meets once per month to manage the grants and applications. They are applying for a”Drug Fee Community” grant of $125K for 5 years
Some financial figures discussed, income and Flu reimbursement
Also the number of rental units in Dedham were discussed briefly
Inspectors Report
  • Blue Ribbon Barbeque is opening week
  • Sweet Green is opening at Legacy Place
